Invitation - 2008

Any friendship becomes fruitful when friends are by our side to connect with our dreams and share our feelings. Connections build bridges between comrades and enhance our strength. Connections also promote our mutual understanding and compatibility. And they become more meaningful when the links extend beyond the borders of one’s country.

This art exhibition, Asia-Art-Link -Hanoi 2008 does not regard this display of art as the single language of an individual but instead as that of a group of artists closely associated in one art space. In a broader sense - this is a connection of several cultures. The exhibition offers artists an opportunity to broaden their outlook, increase their knowledge and contacts with the contemporary art that stems from many different nationalities. Artists can thus freely share their artistic passions, discover and study the multiple and diverse cultural and artistic nuances through the frien
dship of these countries. The theme of artistic links is precisely the important message of the exhibition: an artist reveals his inner self through art and similarly humanity are bound together by this means as well.

For the artists who have contributed artworks for this exhibition, “Art Link” , they will not be confined within the framework of Hanoi 2008 as the journey will continue at a different time and place in various countries . Similarly the vast scope and timeframe of “Art Link” will continue to promote exchanges in the filed of art. In the book Lexus cars and olive trees Thomas Friedman wrote “ a country without robust olive trees will never rest assured that it’s origin is well preserved or be self confident when it welcomes and accepts integration into the international community. But a nation that grows only olive trees and mainly cares for the conservation of its national entity without Lexus cars will never go far.” Here olive trees symbolize the nation’s origins while Lexus cars are the emblems of contemporary history. Accordingly the increase of cultural and artistic exchanges in our times have become a valuable necessity as are the positive values of each nation in such contact that relates to the contemporary cultural elements of mankind.

“Art Link” gathers artists from Japan, Taiwan, Malaysia, Thailand, Philippines, France, Laos and Vietnam in this artistic space whose 32 artworks display the various media and genres that have broadened the dialogue boundary in terms of space and for the art viewer. This simultaneously offers a good opportunity for the radiance of each nation’s cultural and artistic colors to be fulfilled and appreciated.
